So inspired by Malala’s speech at the Giving Pledge Summit, and excited to hear an update on the girls’ school the Sara Blakely Foundation sponsored to build – 300 girls have already registered to attend when it opens this fall!
“Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to help women. I never imagined it would have started with their butts, but as it turns out, that was a great place to start!”
– Sara Blakely
I just returned from the Giving Pledge Summit – and am blown away at what kind of world-changing things are happening. From Jeff Skoll, who is using his platform to create Academy Award winning films that shed a light on social issues – in particular one near and dear to my heart: girls education – to Bill and Melinda gates who are about to eradicate polio on the planet.
I joined theGiving Pledge in 2013 in order to learn from these other philanthropists who are further in the journey than I am, and also to raise the bar even higher on empowering women. My life is an evangelist for women…
I want women to be taken more seriously on the planet, and to be more valued. That’s why I wake up every day and continue to push myself to keep going – I’m scared of almost everything I do, but I don’t take lightly that how I live my life as a woman may have a ripple effect for women around the world.
I believe that we would all be in a much better place if half the human race (women) were empowered to prosper, invent, be educated, start their own businesses, run for office—essentially be given the chance to soar!
